J. K. Rowling
Joanne Kathleen Rowling was bornon
31th July 1965. in Bristol. She had always wanted to become a writer .... She
wrote her first "novel" about a rabbit called "Rabbit" at the age of six. She
was a shy, introvertal girl. She studied at University of Exeter. First she
became a secretarian,then she worked forAmnesty International, where
she dealt with the problems of the French-speaking parts of Africa.
In 1990 while she was sitting on the train
fromManchaster toLondon, she had the idea of writing a novel
ona boy whoescapes from the world of adults to a new world where he
can have his own power. According to Rowling, she had the basic lines of the
full story when she got off the train in London. Rowling realized that she was
much more interested in writing than in her job, so she left her job.
In 1991 she moved to Portugal, where she was
teaching English but had some time for writing as well. She got married with a
man working in the media,and in1993 she gave birth to her daughter
Jessica. Soon she got divorced, and in 1996 she settled down in Edinburgh in
Scotland. Here she was living the hard life of single mothers. She didn't get
any job because of her daughter, so they lived from grant. Not to spend the
whole day in their small flat without heating, Rowling with her daughter spent
every single day sitting beside a cup of tea in a caf, where she wrote the
story of Harry Potter.She was supported by The Scottish ArtBoard to
be able to finish the first book.
The first volume, Harry Potter and the
Philosopher's Stone was finally published in 1997, after several publishers had
refused to publish it. But as the publisher believed that boys don't really like
reading books written by female authors,her name was reduced to J. K.
Rowling on the copies. Rowling consider the moment when she got the new of
her book getting published as the most wonderful thing of her life. She had
always been planning the work to be a series which contains seven books, to
write a book about each year at Hogwarts. In 1998 the book was followed by
'Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets', in 1999 by'Harry Potter and the
Prisoner of Azkaban', in 2000 by'Harry Potter and the Goblet of
Fire',finally by 'Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix'. The books
had a great success, won a lot of awards and became the second wide-read
best-seller in the world. The sixth part is still under constuction, and the
seventh will be being written in the future.
At the beginning of January 2oo5. she gave
birth to her second daughter, Mackenzie Murray ( middle names Jean Rowling ).
So, nowadays J. K. Rowling is living a happy and successful life, have a family
and being admired by lots of people .... |
